Sabastian Sawe wins London Marathon with record-breaking performance

Sawe delivered a controlled and dominant performance on the streets of London on Sunday, pulling away from his rivals in the final stages to secure a landmark victory in one of the sport’s most prestigious events.
The 29-year-old Kenyan broke clear of the leading group in the closing kilometres and crossed the line in 1:59:30, improving the previous world record of 2:00:35 set by Kelvin Kiptum in 2023.
Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha finished second in 1:59:41, also inside the previous world record time, while Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo took third in 2:00:28.

The race was run at a highly competitive pace from the early stages, with the lead pack pushing through the halfway mark in record-chasing time.
Sawe’s victory marks a major milestone in marathon history, with all top three finishers running faster than the previous world record.
